What does a fruit fly do to homemade wine?
My bf makes wine. We did a batch last October and were ready to bottle it this weekend when we noticed one fruit fly in it. Is the batch lost? What does a fruit fly do to wine?
Usually a fruit fly tries to drink the wine, then swims in it, and then drowns in it. If your bf uses bisulfite/campdem tablets, and the wine has enough acidity and alcohol, shouldn’t be a problem. Fruit flies definitely love beer and wine though, and they have a pretty decent natural tolerance to alcohol. I’d just pick the guy out, and not worry about it. Age and patience will tell how the wine turns out, so don’t pour it out until it’s had plenty of time to mature.
