The Goodness in Dry White Wine
The reason why a lot of people have this special adoration for white wine, especially Chardonnay, is because of its refreshing and fruity taste. White wine is often taken as something sweeter than red wine. But for those who have a rather sophisticated palate and who crave for some alcohol, white wine may just be as good as apple juice for them. Sampling from the Chardonnay, this is so because such wine is overruled by fruity taste and scents from watermelon, grapefruit, kiwi, guava, and whatnot. Thus, drinking white wine could almost be compared to sipping on some fruit punch with soda rather than fermented grapes. For those who know white wine well they prefer white wine dry.
So how is wine made dry? This occurs when the sugar found in white wine is changed to alcohol when being fermented. But the wine’s sweetness and fruity characteristics aren’t absolutely washed away, especially because white wines have different levels of dryness. A few wine makers reduce a limited amount of sugar in wine to turn into alcohol so as to maintain its sugary taste After all, lusciousness is part of its appeal. When speaking of white wine, dry, the best comes in Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and the Pinot Gris.
The Sauvignon Blanc is what you can call dry white wine. Its fruity traits are leaning towards citrus fruits that are less sweet. And its strongest note is grass. Even so, it is highly appreciated because its style and taste, as well as the level of acidity, causes it to be very revitalizing. The Chardonnay is a great example of a mid-dry white wine. It is less in alcohol content and it’s almost very sweet and overshadowed with fruit flavors. Chardonnays in America are also really creamy, and sometimes vanilla and butter notes also prevail. The Pinot Gris stays true to being a dry white wine. It has minimal notes of pear and minerals, and a truly crisp taste. It’s the top two selling dry white wine in the world. The Riesling is among the white wines filled with so much crisp and acidity. It too expels notes of pear and minerals, but it differs in that it brings out petrol notes. Other great dry whites include the Pinot Blanc, Viognier, and the Gewurztraminer.
